When you mention food during the Day of the Dead, the rich and complex flavors of the black mole, or "Mole negro," come to mind. This dish, with its unique blend of up to 100 ingredients, including chocolate, almond, garlic, clove, rosemary, tomatoes, and chiles, represents the richness of Oaxacan cuisine. During our Day of the Dead Program, Our cooking workshop, we not only delve into the flavors of the Food of the Dead but also the workshop is designed for practicing Spanish, which is the perfect combination of learning Spanish and cooking.


Another cultural expression in food is the "Pan de muerto," Whereas pan de muerto is an icon in many places in Mexico, in Oaxaca, it comes in forms, and depending on the form, it is easy to understand its origin. There are multiple forms, each particular from a town, like pan de muerto de Mitla, the city of the dead, or pan de muerto de Zaachila. In Oaxaca, it is common for the bread to have sesame seeds on top and different decorations, such as bones or little faces, representing the Dead.
